hump day home makeover / the nursery files #1

January 30, 2013

It's another week of Hump Day Home Makeover, and I've got big news. I'm so excited to say that my sister is pregnant, and I could not be more excited to become an Aunt! My sister and I are five years apart, polar opposites, but extremely close despite her move to Charlottesville, VA and mine to NYC. We talk on the phone on a regular basis and found out we are actually only a 6 hour train ride away!

She and her husband recently bought a new house and now with the news of the baby, she is in some serious need of interior design help. Woohoo - this is where I come in!

With 3 weeks to wait until we know the sex of our newest family member, we are already throwing around nursery room ideas. She's decided she wants the room to be gender neutral, and here's where we've netted out.

Shop The Look:

Since I am pretty much clueless when it comes to babies, I did some serious digging around the blogosphere for tips and inspiration. Thank you to all of the new mom bloggers who shared their nursery favorites. My favorite find was the Little Darlings baby animal photographs I found on A Cup of Jo. Joanna posted that her friend's son "says 'good night' to each one every night," which definitely helped my pitch of the room.

Other things I learned from mommy bloggers on nursery design must-haves?
  • IKEA is where it is at. Nearly all the rooms I saw had dressers from IKEA. I'm a huge fan of IKEA hacks,  and fully intend on hacking the RAST dresser into the green campaign dresser above. $34.99 for each dresser? Yes, please.
  • The Empire Rocker from Nurseryworks is the rocker for nurseries. This thing was all over Pinterest and blogs with lots of moms singing it's praises.
  • Turns out poufs are also a must.
After all my digging, it seems only fair to spread the inspiration. Here are my favorite nurseries I saw.

If anyone has any recommendations, please share! My sister and I are pretty much clueless and at the mercy of the lovely world of bloggers.

    1. The curtains are from Pottery Barn but unfortunately they aren't selling them anymore. I actually have 3 of them that are lightly used that I could put on ebay if you're interested.

    1. Hi Gina - The dresser in the image is from a blog called Viva Cindy. You should check out her DIY, because it's really awesome. The color she says she used was a Martha Stewart paint called palmetto.
