New Year's Eve Glam

December 30, 2012

I can't believe that tomorrow is NYE, and then we will be well on our way into 2013. Twenty-twelve was a fun year, and for some reason I have a really good feeling about 2013. So far, what I know about 2013 is that it's the year I will become an aunt! I could not be more excited (friends who know me and how awkward I am with children, this is your cue to laugh). But really I'm very excited for my sister, her husband, and my mom and dad who are about to become parents and grandparents! So in the spirit of thanking 2012 for the great year with a good send off and welcoming 2013 with a bang - I'm thinking this is the New Year's Eve for sequins especially for the people who never don a sequin dress - this is your year.

I'm signing off for 2012 and heading to Charleston, SC. Hope everyone has a wonderful New Year's, and thanks for following decor-eat!

textile mix / vintage floral tapestry + faux fur

December 29, 2012

The Fashionista has a great post about this campaign - you should check it out - plus it has more pictures
Since I've started doing DIY, I've compiled a list of projects that I want to complete. So far, it's made up of tufting headboard (check), reupholstering a chair and revamping vintage clothes. Since sewing is a big part of the two items still on my list, I have been dying to learn how to sew. I got a sewing machine for Christmas and after seeing this outfit from Rag & Bone's FW 2012 campaign of Kate Moss by photographer, Craig McDean, the revamping vintage clothes has jumped up to the top spot on my DIY to do list.

I love the mix of faux fur with the vintage floral sleeves, and its got me excited to go thrifting once I'm back in New York. If anyone has any recommendations on great thrifting shops - please comment them below!

Fuel Your New Year's Resolution // Greek Salad with Shrimp and Chorizo

December 28, 2012

Hope everyone has been enjoying their holidays! I'm sure we have all spent the past week indulging in some pretty amazing holiday goodies. After spending Christmas night with long-time friends indulging in Smithfield ham biscuits, a goose meal, and champagne and wine tastings - I am ready for a salad. Today’s recipe kicks off a fun new health centric series: Fuel Your New Year's Resolution that will feature new recipe ideas for healthy eating.

Ingredients
2.5 oz mixed baby greens (about 2 handfuls on each plate)
1 cucumber
2 limes
2 vine ripened tomatoes
1/2 cup feta cheese
1/2 pound shrimp
5 slices of chorizo cut quarterly

Dressing Ingredients
1/4 cup olive oil
2 small slices of lime squeezed
1 tbsp red wine vinegar
Salt & Pepper

Place desired amount of lettuce, sliced cucumbers and sliced tomatoes on a plate a set aside. Mix olive oil, lime juice, red wine vinegar and salt and pepper in a small dished and whisk together.

Peel and devein shrimp. Heat stove top to medium heat and add olive oil to the pan. Sear shrimp for about 3 minutes a side. Add chorizo during last 3 minutes. Add cooked shrimp and chorizo to the salad. Drizzle desired dressing and serve with lime wedges.

Enjoy :)

So if you haven't bought your best friend, sister, mom, girlfriend, wife a gift - this is is last chance for online shopping. Check out my list of recommended holiday goodies whether you're looking for gifts under $100 or ideas on what to splurge on - or if you're still crafting your own wish list.

Splurges

Most of the stores above have a time cut off of tomorrow to ship your gift in time for Christmas, but some are already requiring you pay for expedited shipping to make the big day. For smaller stores like - Furbish - I'd recommend calling before ordering to make sure it will make it in time.

Antique Picture Frame To Vanity Tray

December 18, 2012

This past weekend, I finally made a trip to the Brooklyn Flea Market. I've had a vanity tray on my room wish list for a while, and was able to find a antique wedding picture frame at the flea market that could do the trick. It's so easy to do I'm not even sure I can call it DIY, but it's the thought that counts, right? Most vanity trays have mirrors on the bottom, so I'm still deciding between a mirror base or patterned base.

For now, I've styled my new vanity tray with one of my favorite Leigh Viner's prints.

Here's some of my inspiration:

Winter Flea Market - Brooklyn, NY

December 16, 2012

When I first got into antiquing I had no idea what I was doing. I was in DC for the weekend and was wondering around Georgetown window shopping, and got pulled into a few antique shops. At this point, I didn't even know I liked antiquing. Flash forward a year or so, and I'm hooked.

Since I've been in NY for 6 months now, I can't believe that this weekend was my first trip to the Brooklyn Flea Market. It has been on my to-do list for a while after seeing it on CNN's list of America's Best Flea Markets. It's still on my list for the summer time, but it's cool place to visit during the winter as well. From now until March, the flea market moves inside of the old Williamsburg Savings Bank. The building itself really is beautiful with detailed ceilings and the old bank vault. See for yourself...

The market is full of vintage clothes, jewelry, art and more, and I finally picked up a vanity tray! Post coming soon, but until then - these pictures will have to due for those of you not in NYC or willing to go to Brooklyn ;)

I loved this because it reminds me of fashion photographer's, Guy Bourdin's work I saw the summer I lived in Paris. It's all fashion and scandal = LOVE.
I loved the cute polka dot glasses and the gold tray. Is it just me or does gold look fantastic with everything?

I love the idea of bringing an atler into interior design. Plus it helps that my boyfriend is an avid hunter. We made a deal last hunting season that he could go hunting 3 weekends in a row as long as he brought me back an antler. My antler at home moves from framing my lamp to my candles, but I loved the girly touch this one brings to the design.
Alright, so for those of you who have been reading my blog for a while, you know that I love Suzanis. Or as I've joked, "caught Suzani fever" (and the travel bug to get to Istanbul's Grand Bazaar) after reading Justina Blakeney's blog. These patterns are amazing and fun.

Alright, not going to lie, I am definitely experiencing buyer's remorse that I didn't bring this beautiful tray and glasses set home with me. And one up, regretting that I didn't even ask how much the set cost so I could justify once I got home that it's out of my budget. I love the green tray (plus emerald is pantone color of the year for 2013)  and the glasses are vintage and so elegant.

Trend Spot: Emeralds, Gold & Glitter

December 13, 2012

You know it's going to be a good year in the world of fashion and design when Pantone dubs your favorite color (and birthstone) the color of the new year.

It may not be 2013 yet, but this jewel toned color is popping up already for the holidays in Christmas trees and garland decorations. It's a good thing it pairs beautifully with gold and glitter for the holidays.

Here's Proof That Shopping Isn't Always Bad For Your Wallet

December 11, 2012

As you may remember, my friend came to visit from San Francisco back in November, and we spent a day shopping around Soho. We popped into Piperlime's new Soho flagship store (which is awesome btw), and lucked into a store event that asked shoppers to take pictures of items in-store and upload them to mobile fashion app, Snapette, to be entered for a chance to win a $500 Piperlime giftcard. Can you see where this is going? A week later, I found out I had won the gift card!!

Which means I need your help! Seriously, please help. There are so many things to choose from at Piperlime. Do I splurge for NYE?

Or spend wisely for work?

If you have anything you either own or have seen from Piperlime that you love - please comment below and include a link!

And if you haven’t heard of Snapette, you should check it out! It’s an awesome location-based fashion app that lets you check out what’s in stores nearby through your phone's GPS. I love it because I now don’t have to feel bad about flooding my Instagram stream with fashion photos while shopping (seriously I uploaded about 16 items from my recent shopping trip to Bergdorfs and by shopping I mean browsing), and it’s a much better mobile tool to use for inspiration when shopping than Pinterest.

Bedroom Makeover - Boho Rug

December 05, 2012

My room is coming along although it looks absolutely nothing like my original plans. Turns out I gravitate towards boho items. I have finally purchased a new ikat, bohemian rug from Lulu & Georgia. I love the color it brings to my room, and it was affordable! I was a little worried because it's an indoor/outdoor rug made from woven straw and recyclable plastic, but it's actually perfect. And, I won't have to vacuum it a lot which is a huge plus!

I am still working on my bedding, curtains and artwork (don't judge me), but here's a full look at the rug.

And some more rugs I love for different rooms in your house:

Winter Lust

December 03, 2012

I'm dying for this outfit & accessories.

I love the casual tribal sweater and Hudson (they are SUPER comfortable) jeans with a little edge from the biker boots and snake ring. I also found this watch today at Vince Camuto. I love their shoes, and had no idea the brand sells watches too. I like this one because it's traditional with a twist.
