This week's hump day home makeover is a bedroom edition, featuring this awesome room full of electric blue! I LOVE the color of the headboard, the white bedding and marlin adding another kick of electric blue to the room.

Serenbe Style

June 25, 2012

I love this - Ballard Designs and Bosch teamed up to decorate this sustainable home in Serenbe, GA. For those of you who haven't heard of Serenbe, it is an awesome community in Georgia that focuses on land preservation, agriculture, walk-ability, arts and crafts and community. It's also a great place for cyclists, and is where the Multiple Sclerosis fundraising bike team, Drummond Cycling, holds their training ridesI think they did a great job capturing the cozy, rustic feel of the community with a European inspired twist.

The home is open for complimentary tours Friday- Sunday through July.

In past year's Serenbe has received a lot of press within lifestyle, interior design and food magazines like House Beautiful, Town & Country, Garden & Gun, Southern Living, Bon Appetit and more. I liked the interior design found in House Beautiful's article "The New Utopia," which featured Marie and Steve Nygren's (Serenbe founders) town house designed by Smith Hanes.

Travel // Officially Obsessed with Costa Rica

June 21, 2012

After the past week of vacation in Dominical, Costa Rica, I did not want to come back to the US. A group of friends and I rented a house, went deep sea fishing, and explored the town and market, beaches, and food. It was such an amazing vacation that I highly recommend to anyone looking for a real escape and break (but you've gotta power down your iphone and put your TV rituals on hold - trust me it's worth it). Here are some of my favorites from the trip. Can't you see where the Pura Vida comes from??

Hump Day Home Makeover // Cozy Bedroom

June 20, 2012

This week's Hump Day Home Makeover was inspired by a bedroom featured in a post on Design Sponge. The bedroom belongs to a couple living in San Francisco's Mission District, and was designed to be the couple's favorite room in the house. I love the all white bedding and the tribal feel of the kantha quilt.

Weekend Wine Tasting Favorites

June 12, 2012

This weekend I went to a wine tasting at Brookgreen Gardens in Murrels Inlet, SC. Brookgreen Gardens is a beautiful historical landmark with old oak trees with Spanish moss, sculptures, ponds, a zoo, butterfly garden and more. It's huge - 9,200 sq. acres, and used to be I think four rice plantations.

The wine tasting was hosted in the Live Oak Allee with 20 wines to taste, hors d'oeuvres, and a live band. At each table there was a wine from the old world and new world to taste.

The wines:

I'm not a big Chardonnay fan, so consequently I didn't have a favorite from the Chardonnay group. Although, I have heard great things about Trefethen. Here were my favorites:

Pinot Gris from the Willamette Valley in Oregon
Tasting notes: fiji apples, gooseberries, key lime, minerals, and soft flower and apple aroma
Pairing: shellfish, seafood, light pasta
$20/bottle from winery

Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley, Oregon
Tasting notes: Juicy red, blue and black fruits, spice and minerals
Pairing: leaner meets (chicken, lamb, etc.), earthly flavors - spices, mushrooms, peppercorn, etc.
$35/bottle from winery

Cabernet Sauvignon from the Rapel Valley, Chile
Tasting notes: Juicy fresh red fruit, tobacco, cedar and tea leaves towards the finish.
Pairing: red meat; hearty pasta
$11.99 from Gary Wines

Sauvignon Blanc from Napa Valley/Rutherford, CA
Tasting Notes: citrus, lemon peel, minerals, crisp and refreshing
Pairing: shellfish, white fish, seafood
$20/bottle from the winery

What are your favorite go-to wines?

Graphic Florals & Brights

June 08, 2012

Has anyone been to Zara recently? I've been really impressed by the style of clothes they have right now that you can wear anytime of the day. They've got a lot of bright colors, and they've been able to pull off florals that don't look like something only your mom would wear. The only downfall is that their jewelry selection is pretty limited. If you're looking for a weekend outfit try some of the items below - all outfits are pretty much a one-stop shop to Zara except for the jewelry.

To my Atlanta friends - There's a Zara and Urban at Lenox and Perimeter Mall.

Hump Day Home Makeover // Beachy Keen

June 06, 2012

This week's Hump Day Home Makeover is inspired by a beach house in Pawley's Island, SC. It is an extremely beautiful place (if you missed my weekend snapshots, see what I mean here). One of the best parts is that the island restricts commercial buildings, so what's left are a bunch of "arrogantly shabby" beach houses and grandfathered in inns on the coast. The house is a great mixture of new accents and old foundations. With the walls and floors of the house coming from an old cotton mill in Georgetown, and the wall decor coming from local shops, etc.

This week's Hump Day Home Makeover features the living room couch - another great mix of old and new. The cushions, fabrics and accents are consistently updated to manage the wear and tear from renters, while the couch itself is now considered vintage from Ficks Reed (can't believe that things from the 90s are already vintage!)
