hump day home makeover / beach decor ideas

June 26, 2013

With my mom spending her 50th summer and I my 26th, you can imagine why this is a place that we hold dear in our hearts. My mom's side of the family grew up coming to Pawleys Island every summer and staying in a wonderful, oceanfront bed and breakfast, Sea View Inn. I spent a few of my early summers at the Inn, and after visiting this past weekend I had to share its shabby chic design. Check out how to get the beach look for your home below!

Wood boards are everywhere in the Inns decor from painted ceilings to walls to floors. The back porch is one of my favorite rooms with it's white lofted ceiling and aqua floors. Isn't it fantastic??
Lime green and aqua are a match made in heaven.

This two pieced buffet is my next favorite decor piece in the Inn. The bright coral color is bright and cheery and makes a fun mix with the blue tiled counter. Here are some of my favorites of the living room and outdoor

The whole Inn is charming and homey with bare feet guests, swinging Western doors, southern cooked meals, communal showers (and liquor cabinet),  and a nap/quiet hour from lunch to dinner.

Get the beach look for your home.

A Week At Pawleys Island + Ginkgo Giveaway Winner!

June 20, 2013

I've said it a million times in the past 5 or so days I've been here, but this just has to be the best place in the world. Growing up in Atlanta, Pawleys Island was my family's escape from the 95+ 'Hot'lanta heat. With this being my 26th year coming to Pawleys Island, it makes sense why it just doesn't quite feel like summer until I'm here.

So far I've read The Art Forger, which was a good enough read to blow through in just 2 days, but not ground breaking. Book suggestions, welcome needed!!
Cooked. A lot.
(More recipes coming your way next week!)
We tasted wines from Australia and New Zealand at Brookgreen Gardens' annual wine & silent auction event. I didn't think I was an Australian wine fan and haven't even paid close enough attention to know what wines were from New Zealand before, but I found some favorites I'll be sharing next week!

And fell in love with the adorable kittens running around the house. They are clearly adorable and so sweet. We've named the gray one Maximus and the white one is Khaleesi.
If anyone is in the Charleston, Myrtle Beach, Pawleys Island area and are looking for a new kitten let me know!! We are dying to find them good homes.

Now for the winner!

Congratulations Ashley!
I've emailed you with details on how to collect your prize.

A huge thank you to everyone who entered!
Hope to bring more fun giveaways to you in the future.

Columbus Day At Pawleys Island

October 08, 2012

This weekend I spent a much needed long weekend at the lovely Pawleys Island. Not only did we get to spend 2 days on the beach pretending it was still summer, but we also got to end every day with a beautiful sunset over the marsh.

Okay, but seriously, I cannot get enough of this place.

I know I'm now design obsessed, when I saw the pluff mud in the marsh and my first thought was how popular slate gray is now! ha.

If you are planning a trip to Pawley's Island, there a few things you can't miss (besides the sunset). Check out Seaview Inn for breakfast, Landolfi's for lunch, Outback at Franks and Chive Blossom for dinner - or if you're cooking at home - the Pawley's Island Seafood Market and vegetable stand on highway 17.

Yes, I'm already looking forward to the weekend & Southern cooking

October 02, 2012

Since this weekend I will be taking a very highly anticipated trip to my favorite place in the whole world, Pawleys Island, I figured it was the perfect time to share this recipe I saw last week from Palmetto Cheese - The Pimento Cheese with Soul! Why? Because the Palmetto Cheese was created by the owners of Seaview Inn on Pawleys Island, and the Inn and island hold a very special place in my heart - Plus, how amazing do these cheesy biscuits look??

Recipe - I made a few little additions to make the recipe more low-fat friendly!
2 Cups Biscuit baking mix (Bisquick or any store brand will work)
1/2 Cup Low-Fat Sour Cream
1/2 Cup Sprite Zero
1/2 Cup Palmetto Cheese - I say go with the Jalapeno, it's delicious!
1/4 Cup Butter, melted.
Directions:
Cut the sour cream into the Biscuit mix with a fork until crumbly.
Stir in the Sprite and the Palmetto Cheese. Your mixture will be soft.
Pour butter into a 9 inch square pan.
To keep things clean, we put down two sheets of plastic wrap on the counter.
Sprinkle some of the Bisquick onto the counter so the dough doesn’t stick.
Pat your dough out on the counter until it is about the same size as your pan. Cut the dough into shapes, we just made ours into squares.
Place into the pan on top of the melted butter. Biscuits should be touching each other.
Bake at 450 for 12- 15 minutes or until golden brown.

Hump Day Home Makeover // Beachy Keen

June 06, 2012

This week's Hump Day Home Makeover is inspired by a beach house in Pawley's Island, SC. It is an extremely beautiful place (if you missed my weekend snapshots, see what I mean here). One of the best parts is that the island restricts commercial buildings, so what's left are a bunch of "arrogantly shabby" beach houses and grandfathered in inns on the coast. The house is a great mixture of new accents and old foundations. With the walls and floors of the house coming from an old cotton mill in Georgetown, and the wall decor coming from local shops, etc.

This week's Hump Day Home Makeover features the living room couch - another great mix of old and new. The cushions, fabrics and accents are consistently updated to manage the wear and tear from renters, while the couch itself is now considered vintage from Ficks Reed (can't believe that things from the 90s are already vintage!)

Weekend Snapshot - Pawleys Island

June 04, 2012

Well as if Monday's aren't hard enough, it's raining and I'm no longer sitting on the beach sipping a margarita with a book in hand. I guess these pics from the weekend will have to do to tide me over until the next. But hey, that's what weekend snapshots are for right? After a 6 hour drive to Pawley's Island, SC, we spent the day on the beach, ate Landolfi's for lunch, watched the sunset over the marsh and ate dinner at Chive Blossom.

And since I will be in beach mode all this week (yes I am going to milk it for as long as possible) - This week's Hump Day Home Makeover will be a beach edition! Sneak peak at what's to come on Wednesday:
