Hump Day Home Makeover // Pattern Play with Josef Frank

October 03, 2012

This week's Hump Day Home Makeover will help you bring some pop to any room. This week I discovered Josef Frank. Yet another Austrian artist (Gustav Klimt being the first), whose work I love.

Who's Josef Frank? He was an Austrian architect, designer, painter, and founder of Swedish modernism, who produced over 200 patterns from 1909 to 1950. He was also a lover of botany, which I definitely think shows in his nature inspired, vine-like, modern designs. His patterns are fresh and different from a lot of patterns I've seen recently and work as the focal point to any room.

So how can you get the look?

From what I've seen his textiles are pretty expensive, but luckily IKEA has picked up this Swedish modernism in many of their items...or you could splurge for the real thing. Here are some items I found, most of which are sold at Just Scandinavian:

Bold vine-like patterns are also popping up across the fashion world - as seen with Tibi's print - Belle.

What do you think - Is a pop of pattern for your home, closet or both?

Hump Day Home Makeover // Beachy Keen

June 06, 2012

This week's Hump Day Home Makeover is inspired by a beach house in Pawley's Island, SC. It is an extremely beautiful place (if you missed my weekend snapshots, see what I mean here). One of the best parts is that the island restricts commercial buildings, so what's left are a bunch of "arrogantly shabby" beach houses and grandfathered in inns on the coast. The house is a great mixture of new accents and old foundations. With the walls and floors of the house coming from an old cotton mill in Georgetown, and the wall decor coming from local shops, etc.

This week's Hump Day Home Makeover features the living room couch - another great mix of old and new. The cushions, fabrics and accents are consistently updated to manage the wear and tear from renters, while the couch itself is now considered vintage from Ficks Reed (can't believe that things from the 90s are already vintage!)

Online Shop Spotlight // Sosie + Peplum Tops

June 05, 2012

Today my roommate showed me this online site that I really love - sosie - cute, patterned clothes and cheap! For those of you who saw my Derby Day pics they have a chevron topped dressed with coral skirt! (aqua coming soon?? not sure, but the coral is cute too).

more dresses I love...

...and necklaces:

1. geo stone necklace small in jade  | 2. cambria necklace  | 3. blue stripe link necklace

In addition to sosies, I wanted to share my new favorite trend for spring - peplum tops! I love the outfits Blair from Atlantic-Pacific and Patrycja from Daisy's Heels have created with them. (I even bought my first top today from ASOS, another great online shop for cheaper fashion with free delivery and returns, shown in the last image on the right).
